South of Scotland Enterprise Agency - launch of consultation

Scottish Goverment LogoEarlier today, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work, Keith Brown, launched a consultation seeking views on the establishment of a new Enterprise Agency for the South of Scotland. The responses we receive will shape the development of the South of Scotland Enterprise Agency, influence what it will do, and inform the legislation needed to establish it.

As part of the 2016-17 Enterprise and Skills Review, we asked the South of Scotland what it wanted from its future. Our commitment to establish a new Agency responds to what we were told was needed to help the economy of the South grow - a strong workforce, a skilled business base, thriving communities, and more opportunities. The foundations are there – we want to continue the conversation to build on that base and to get the detail of the design right. We want to hear what you feel would make the difference.

The consultation sets out a framework for that discussion. But we don't want to constrain the discussion and we welcome all of your views and suggestions. As well as this written consultation document, we will be taking forward a range of meetings across the area over the next few months to hear your views directly.

We are keen to ensure that Community Councils based in the South get the opportunity to respond directly to this consultation. With this in mind, we would be grateful if you could forward this onto all of the Community Council contacts based in your area.
