Rob Jones, Volunteer
VOLUNTEERS AT:
The Bike Station
ROB’S BACKGROUND
Twelve months ago, previous to starting to volunteer, Rob had a drug and alcohol addiction. He was in limbo and did not know what to do. A friend recommended a place called The Bike Station which strips and rebuilds bikes to give to charities and he went along to have a look. Before he knew it he had a spanner in his hand and was volunteering regularly.
WORKING IN THE BIKE STATION
Rob started volunteering in the Bike Station 12 months ago and does a variety of jobs including stripping and rebuilding bikes, recycling scrap and driving a trailer around bike shops to pick up bike donations. The Bike Station is a voluntary organisation which aims to recycle old bikes and give them back to charities.
In Rob’s own words – what do you enjoy about volunteering?
“I can be myself here. It’s easy going and laid back and there are no strict rules. There are a variety of interesting people. I suppose its men and their machines, it’s a good atmosphere and everyone just mucks in together”
In one word how do you sum up your volunteering experience?
“Fantastic”
